Audio and YouTube Release of Iron Chops at Jazz Central Studios: Jazz Guitar From The Beginning To The Present

This is a live album I recorded with my band Iron Chops on 02/24/2024 at Jazz Central Studios in Minneapolis Minnesota.

This concert was programmatic. I picked a song from each decade/era/style of jazz and paired it with a guitar from that same decade/era/style. To the degree I could I tried to use appropriate instruments in the ensemble; for example, the use of soprano saxophone on the 20s and gypsy tune and the use of bass with bow on the opening melody of the gypsy tune in imitation of the violin where efforts to use authentic instrumentation or at least get as close as I could. Same with flute on the Brazilian and Latin jazz tunes.

Each song opens with an explanation of why the song was chosen, the decade/era/style the song represents, the guitar I use, the other instrumentation in the band, and I also highlight one or two guitarists from that decade/era/style of guitar playing that are, relatively speaking, off the beaten trail and less well known yet where in their time great players.

Iron Chops at Jazz Central Studios (In Person and Streaming)

I will be playing with my band at Jazz Central Studios in Minneapolis Minnesota. The concert will be in person and streamed live at Jazz Central’s website:

https://www.jazzcentralstudios.org/

I will also post the videos on my YouTube channel and the recordings on my website afterwards.

The set is going to go through almost all the decades/eras of jazz and play a song from that era. I will also whenever possible be pairing a guitar with each song that is appropriate to the era and style.

Below is an image of the set list with the era, artist name, and song. I also include links to each song’s original recordings:
