Jazz Flux

About the Band:

Jazz Flux is a group comprising several of Milwaukee's most active performing jazz musicians. The love of jazz has brought this group together to create and maintain one of America's great musical traditions. The group derives it's unique sound from elements of hip hop, R&B, and pop while incorporating elements of those genres into it's performances of traditional jazz. Along with multiple musical influences the band's performances are distinguished by the high energy the band brings; byproduct of the groups passion for the music and friendship with one another.

Band Members:

The group Is composed of a mix of Millennials and Generation Z musicians along with the elder of the group Victor Campbell.

Clay Lyons: alto saxophone.

Jamill Shaw: tenor saxophone.

Tael Estremera: piano, bass guitar, and drums.

Ian Howard: Upright and electric bass.

Jon Wood: guitar, electric and upright bass.

Band Member Biographies:

Jamill Shaw, band leader and tenor saxophone

The leader of the group is tenor saxophonist Jamill Shaw. Jamill has been studying Jazz since sixth-grade when he started with MYSO (Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra). Jamil has studied with Jazz masters including Berkeley Fudge, Aaron Gardner, Mark Davis, and Eric Jacobson.

Victor Cambpell, drums

Victor Campbell has been an active performer in the Milwaukee/Chicago jazz scene for decades and was a student of the legendary Roy Haynes (jazz drummer).

Clay Lyons, alto saxaphone

The band also includes Berkeley graduate Clay Lyon's on alto saxophone. Clay grew up in Madison Wisconsin and since his return to the Wisconsin area from years of performing internationally and in New York City has continued to perform in Milwaukee and Madison. Clay is well respected amongst his peers in the area for his mastery of the B Bop language and effortless creativity on the alto.

Jon Wood: Guitar, Upright and Electric Bass

Jon Wood is a transplant to Milwaukee from Minneapolis Minnesota. Jon holds a bachelors degree in jazz and classical performance and economics along with a masters degree in classical guitar performance. Jon moved to Milwaukee in September 2019 to study with Rene Izquierdo; an international classical guitar performer and head of the guitar department at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Jon has had two CDs that where featured on Minnesota Public Radio's Jazz 88.5 KBEM, took part in a nationally broadcast performance on Minnesota Twin Cities' Public Television, and was featured in the Minnesota Jazz Guitar Summit in 2015.
